Great for smaller pieces, especially to taper

Posted by AJ on Mar 1st 2024

What it's great at: Tapering (or ripping) a small board--and I say "small" because the widest board you could mount on the jig is only 4-5". For most tapering jobs, that's plenty big enough. For me, it's table legs with a width of no more than 3" or so. Works beautifully. What it's NOT great at is ripping a board too wide to be mounted on the jig. The instructions that in that case, remove the miter bar and put the jig up against your fence to make room, leaving the workpiece directly on the table. But in this setup, tightening the hold-down clamps only lifts the jig off the table. It's like doing a push-up in the sand and trying to make two holes, instead of lifting your body off the ground. It just doesn't work that way. So...wonderful jig for narrower boards, and a BRILLIANT jig if they'd just make it wider! Are you listening, Powertec? I'd happily pay more for a this jig with a 10-12" base that let me rip wider pieces. Thx for listening!

I have been making Adirondack chairs for a while and cutting the back slats out with a bandsaw and I used my taper jig for the first time and it was the greatest miracle that I have ever seen I love your table jig and telling all my friends about it.
