T-Track Accessories – The Basics

T-tracks can be found crisscrossing workbenches, on router tables, and even atop table-saw sled fences. However, it’s track accessories that make this tool as versatile as it is. Here, we’re going to take a look at the more common accessories that connect to t-tracks, along with a few items that are little more specialized.

Must-have T-Track accessories: Hold-down clamps; round stops; stop kits (long & short); & vice clamps. These are all variations on the same theme, holding workpieces firmly in place allowing you to get to work done. Clamped down, the whole table should move before the workpiece does. Hold-down clamps apply pressure from the top, while stop kits hold the piece in place. When dealing with irregular-shaped workpieces, round stops can be placed strategically around the track table to hold the piece. Lastly, you should have a few vice clamps kicking around for holding down 2x4s or even rigging a multi t-track fence to your workbench (you never know!).

Time-saving T Track accessories: Cam clamps; toggle clamp mounting plates. These are all about repetitive actions and saving time. Imagine you have 20 identical pieces that need to be worked on. Starting with cam clamps, once the clamp is screwed down, pushing the lever down locks the workpiece in place. Finished? Flip up the lever, remove the piece, place the next piece on the table and clamp down. Toggle clamp mounting plates allow you to add this very powerful style of clamp (immense clamping pressure) that also quick releases. Like cam clamps, release, slide in the next workpiece, clamp down again.

Fence accessories: Multi T-track fence; multi Track brackets; fence flip stops. Here things are getting much more specialized and the jigs, that much more complicated. The multi-track fence you’ll find on sleds and router tables, and even standalone on workbenches. The slots mean you can slide in hold-down clamps to the face of the fence, clamping higher, and against the fence rather than the tabletop. The multi-track brackets simply hold the multi t-track fence in place. Finally, there's fence flip stops. This is for track laid out on a table saw sled fence. Just slid in the flip stop to make quick, accurate, and repetitive cross cuts on a table saw.

Self-made accessories: T-track jig kits, t-slot bolts, hex bolts, intersection kits; track table tops. These are the tools for the hardcore DIYers. The basics to build it all yourself the way you need it.

We’ll be revisiting t-tracks and accessories in the run up to the holiday season. If you have a hobbyist or another woodworker in the family, a track table along with some “must have” accessories would make a great holiday present for someone you care for. Good luck and work safe!
